Chief Donn Peterson

Chief Donn G. Peterson joined the Humboldt State University Police Department in January 2015. Prior to joining HSUPD, he served for 30 years with the Broward Sheriff's Office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  You can read Donn’s complete biography here.

An extension of the collaborative partnership between Humboldt State University and the City of Arcata, Chief Peterson is actively involved in the Equity Arcata initiative, chairing the Police & Student Safety Forum.  This working group meets on the third Thursday of every month in the African American Center for Academic Excellence.  You can find out more about Equity Arcata by clicking here.

The University Police Department is very proud to sponsor part-time student employment.  Supporting several pillars of the CSU Graduation Initiative 2025, student employees assist UPD by providing LiveScan services, working the front counter at the University Police Department, and also by providing after-hours personal safety escorts during the week between the hours of 5pm and 1am.  In addition to safety escorts, these patrols also enhance campus safety by ensuring our library and the perimeter of our residence halls are receiving additional patrols.

Not only does the University Police Department support student success in traditional ways by providing campus safety, but also through the establishment of the University Police Department Scholarship.  I’m not aware of another police department that supports students by giving back in this manner, and I am very proud of the commitment the members of the HSUPD Team have made to HSU students.  You can read more about the UPD Scholarship by clicking here.
