Safety Escort Program

To promote your safety, you may call the University Police Department at any time for a safety escort.

However, as a result of current guidelines related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Student Safety Escort Program is not available. We look forward to providing these services again. Please see more information below about the program.

The HSU Student Safety Escort Program provides HSU students and community members, who do not feel comfortable walking alone, with a uniformed student employee escort to walk them between campus buildings, to their vehicle, residence halls, shuttle/bus stop, or other locations on the Main Campus during hours of darkness.  This service typically operates Monday - Friday, from 5:00PM until 1:00AM, during the academic year.  Student employees will also locate, log, and secure propped exterior doors at residential halls and elsewhere across campus.  This will provide an increased level of safety in the community by providing a visual deterrent to crime, and a reduction in criminal opportunities by securing doors.  Additionally, student employees will conduct lighting surveys, quarterly function-tests of the campus blue light stations, library walk-throughs, and be available to assist with commencement, as well as move-in and move-out days.

Officers are also available to conduct escorts in special circumstances, or outside of the hours when student escorts are available.

To request a safety escort, call 826-5555 or just dial 5555 from one of the campus courtesy phones. Blue lights are mounted near the outdoor courtesy phones for ease in locating them. This service is for escorts on-campus only.
